Outgoing Texas House Speaker Dennis Bonnen, R-Lake Jackson, announced Sunday afternoon in a Facebook post that he and his wife, Kim Bonnen, have tested positive for COVID-19.

In the post, Bonnen said that he tested positive over the weekend and that his symptoms have been mild.

“Given our exposure, many have inquired about my health status, as well as that of our sons, Jackson and Gregory,” Bonnen said in the post. “Jackson and Gregory will continue to be tested as we quarantine as a family to keep those around us safe.”

Bonnen also said they are unable to pinpoint their initial exposure, but that like many other families, they celebrated Christmas with just their household.

“We have diligently followed all health protocols since March, thanks to my wife’s adamant reminders,” Bonnen said. “This disease is no joke in its unpredictability and severity, so please continue to keep your guard up and your loved ones protected. Mask up and social distance, avoid large gatherings, and take care of one another.”
